FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — It was a lucky day for a kitten who was rescued by Fort Lauderdale firefighters after surviving a 15-mile drive while trapped under a car.

Fort Lauderdale Deputy Fire Chief Tim Heiser says the driver heard muffled mews coming from his car after driving from Lauderhill to Fort Lauderdale on Thursday. He called for help.

A fire rescue crew found the tiny kitten entangled in the suspension arm of the car.

Heiser says the driver didn't have a jack so crews used rescue equipment to raise the car, remove the tire and untangle the wet, dirty and scared kitten. They reassembled the car.

There was no ID on the kitten, so it now has a new home with one of the firefighters.
