TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A family has been displaced after a lightning strike set their Tallahassee home on fire Monday afternoon.

The Tallahassee Fire Department says that they were called to a home in the 2000 block of Duneagle Lane around 6:15 p.m.

The neighbors who called 911 reported that smoke began coming from the home shortly after a thunderstorm.

Officials say crews arrived to find thick smoke coming from the roof of the house. They quickly forced open the locked home and began to extinguish the fire that was burning in the attic.

No one was home at the time of the fire, though firefighters rescued the family's dog from inside. No injuries were reported on scene.

TFD says the fire appeared to be caused by a lightning strike. The fire caused an estimated $150,000 in damages.

Officials say the Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
