VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Several main roads are closed in Valdosta after a fire at a nursing home.

The Valdosta Police Department says that the fire at the Heritage House Nursing Home at 2501 North Ashley Street has been contained.

Staff at Heritage Healthcare of Valdosta/Pruitt Health had discovered that smoke was coming from the back of the building.

Upon the Valdosta Fire Department’s arrival at the scene, the alarms were going off and officials had already begun evacuation of the elderly residents.

Police say that no injuries have been reported and all residents are now being cared for.

All lanes of traffic on North Ashley Street are currently blocked from Pendleton Park to Cowart Avenue. It is anticipated that these streets will be temporarily closed for approximately two hours or more.

Residents are asked to avoid the area as traffic will be restricted.
