TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County school system has released the names of 5 educators who are up for the 2015 Teacher of the Year award.
The winner will be surprised at their school Thursday morning.
The 5 teachers were selected by a committee of teachers, administrators, parents and community representatives. They were hand picked from 42 candidates. Before Thursday's decision, they will each go through an interview process with the selection committee.
This year's finalists include:
Marilynn Griffith, Apalachee Elementary School Tapestry Magnet School of the Arts—Marilynn has been teaching for three years, all in Leon County at Apalachee Elementary Tapestry Magnet School of the Arts. She is currently a Math teacher.
Robyn Dilmore, Deerlake Middle School—Robyn has been a teacher for a little over eight years, all in Leon County at Deerlake Middle. She is currently teaching World History.
Julie Arasi, Kate Sullivan Elementary School—Julie has taught her entire eight year career here in Leon County at Kate Sullivan. She is currently teaching third grade.
David Schubert, DeSoto Trail Elementary—David has been a teacher for five years and has been at DeSoto for the previous three. He is currently the Technology Resource Coordinator.
Rachel Webber, Gilchrist—Rachel has been a teacher for the previous twelve years, the last seven of which have been at Gilchrist. She is currently teaching Gifted Enrichment Programs.
