TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Two FAMU alumni are behind a movie being released nationwide tonight called "Canal Street."
The film is a timely portrayal of racial and class conflicts. After an African-American teenager is arrested for the murder of a white classmate, his father fights in court to clear his son's name.
Amir Windom is the Executive Producer and Music Supervisor, along with Co-Producer, Kevin Mullens.
They said they're focusing on a difficult to talk about topic, through the lens of faith.
"Our film does that, it brings people together. No matter what your color is, on water what your religion is, and that's what we want," said Windom. "We didn't want to create another movie that was about injustice per say. We wanted, more so, to just promote the message of love, unity and faith."
"When they leave there, instead of just being the typical person waiting around on on somebody else to bring about change, that something about this film will help them, inspire them, ignite them if you will to become a person that change happens through," said Mullens.
"Canal Street" hits the big screen Tuesday night at Tallahassee's AMC at 8:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m.
