TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--You and your children can start the new year off right by making healthy lifestyle adjustments.

The Florida Health Department in Leon County says more than 56 percent Leon County residents who are adults are overweight or obese.

The numbers also show during the 2015-2016 school year, 39.8 percent of Leon County sixth graders were overweight or obese.

One simple way to cut back on calories, is to avoid sugar-sweetened drinks such as soda, kool-aid, fruit punch, and sweet tea. Limit yourself to four ounces of 100 percent juice per day.

Make exercise a part of your daily routine.
