TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Music filled the air at the 3rd annual field day music festival that took place on Saturday at Maclay gardens in Tallahassee.

The goal of the festival is to bring awareness and raise money for cancer prevention research.

This cause is especially close to Katie Pernell. She lost her mom to pancreatic cancer four years ago and Pernell wanted to honor her in a special way, but also others in the community who have similar stories.

There was an area at Saturday's event, called the garden of angels, that's dedicated for people to have a quiet moment and leave a special note to someone they know who lost their battle to cancer.

In the end, that's what this event is all about. Supporting those who have been touched in some way by this disease.

"This is something that was needed in our community. Not only for research, but also the financial support and the emotional support to provide other families that are going through this. And Stacy and I banded together to put together this music festival for a great cause," said Pernell.

All proceeds from Saturday's concert are going to The Judy Field Memorial Foundation.
