LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Florida Highway Patrol officer has been arrested, accused of sexually battering a teen.
Chad Corriveau, 32, was arrested Sept. 22 by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a probable cause document, Corriveau is accused of battering the teen between November 25, 2016 and January 1, 2017.
The victim told investigators that sometime during Thanksgiving break in 2016, Corriveau showed them pornography on his cellphone. About a month later, Corriveau sexually battered the teen, telling them not to tell anyone.
According to the document, the victim told investigators that she was scared to tell Corriveau to stop because he is short-tempered and was afraid for her safety.
WFTV reports that a deputy at the Lake County Sheriff's Office was also placed on administrative leave as investigators believe that "[he] may have known about the abuse and failed to immediately report it as required by state statute."
The news outlet reports that a victim's family member told the deputy about the alleged abuse Sept. 7, but he didn't notify his supervisor until Sept. 20.
WFTV says that Corriveau has been placed on paid leave pending the investigation. He is facing the following charges: sexual batter under familial authority and showing obscene material to a minor.
