(WTXL) - The Florida Highway Patrol is reminding residents, if you see emergency workers on the road, it's the law to move over for them.

The law states, if you see a stopped law enforcement officer, sanitation workers, emergency responders, utility workers, or tow trucks. You have to switch lanes when it's safe or reduce speed to 20 miles per hour or less.

According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were 204 crashes and 68 injuries reported due to motorists failing to move over in 2016.

Law enforcement officials issued more than 5,000 citations to drivers who failed to "Move Over".
