TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - This week leading up to the Labor Day weekend, law enforcement agencies in Florida and Georgia are once again joining forces for "Hands Across the Border," an annual traffic safety campaign. Their goal is to work together this holiday weekend to make sure drivers are driving safe speeds, not drinking and driving and wearing their seat belts.
Law enforcement officers will crack down on unsafe driving through saturation patrols and checkpoints throughout the week. Their goal is to reduce DUI crashes and fatalities during the Labor Day weekend.
The Florida Highway Patrol says drunk driving is one of America's deadliest crimes. In 2013, there were nearly 1,000 alcohol related fatalities across Florida.
