(First Coast News) - Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) made a grisly discovery on Tuesday after being dispatched to an accident in Union County. Upon arrival to the scene, another vehicle was located deeper in the woods with a deceased occupant inside.
At approximately 9:11 p.m., FHP The Florida Highway Patrol was dispatched to County Road 796A at State Road 238 in response to a non-fatal crash when they discovered a separate accident deeper in the woods with a body inside.
Law enforcement says that body was found inside a Mercedes E-Class and is believed to have been sitting there since 2017.
Law enforcement tells First Coast News that the person inside the car may be the primary suspect in a car theft from that same year. They believe the suspect stole a family vehicle.
Troopers are currently working to determine the identity of the driver. They say that their investigators are working with the Union County Sheriff's Office regarding possible missing person reports.
