WAKULLA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A Sopchoppy man was arrested after crashing into a Jeep with 57 grams of synthetic marijuana and 67 tablets of Xanax found inside his car.
Jefferson Alford, 53, of Sopchoppy, Fla., was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol on Friday.
FHP troopers were patrolling US 319 at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, traveling northbound and saw Alford going southbound following too closely to a Jeep, while holding his cellphone with both hands.
FHP states a Wakulla County Sheriff's Office Deputy was directly behind Alford in response to a 911 reckless driver call.
When FHP troopers went to make a traffic stop on Alford, he ran into the back of the Jeep.
After a crash as well as DUI and drug investigation, FHP troopers found 57 grams of synthetic marijuana and 67 tablets of Xanax in his car.
The driver of the Jeep was not injured, but the passenger sustained minor injuries and was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Alford is being charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, driving under the influence, driving of the influence with property damage, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
