(RNN) - SGA Pharmaceuticals has recalled multiple lots of injectable drugs because of possible microbial contamination. The recall involves 11 lots and 10 different drugs, among them the powerful painkillers Fentanyl and morphine, as well as Oxytocin, which is commonly used to induce labor.
The company said administration of a drug that contained microbial contamination “could result in serious adverse events which may include life-threatening infections.” The drugs in question are intended to be sterile.
The company stressed that there have been no customer complaints or reports of related, adverse reactions, but it is voluntarily recalling the drugs out of an abundance of caution.
The drugs at issue are sold to hospitals in large lots. SCA is notifying customers by phone, email and U.S. mail and arranging for replacements, the recall notice said.
