FEMA provides home repair advice in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - As FEMA checks roll in for people in our area affected by Hurricane Michael, many are heading to hardware stores to buy supplies for home repairs.

Starting Thursday, homeowners can find some asssistance while they shop thanks to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

WTXL's Jada Williams was live Thursday morning at Home Depot.

FEMA will have a team at Home Depot showing people the best items to buy to Hurricane Proof their homes.

For free, specialists will help shoppers find the best materials and repair options that are proven to withstand or at least take less damage during the event of a Hurricane or similar natural disaster.

FEMA specialists will be at the Home Depot on Capital Circle Northwest on Thursday through next Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

However, the team will be there at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and will not be available on Sunday.

Deanna Frazier, a FEMA media relations specialist: "We do try to partner up with those hardware stores and home improvement stores. We think it's important to provide this information so that they can build better and stronger for the next round of storms."

There will be a table set up near the entrance with pamphlets and advice, as well as people walking around to help.

And remember, the deadline to apply for assistance is December 17, Monday.
