TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's the first day of the North Florida Home and Garden Show.

And FEMA representatives came out to make sure the public is ready for the next natural disaster.

FEMA reps talked about food, wind, elevation, and home security. They also had a water model to demonstrate the negative effects of flooding.

FEMA says the goal is to make sure everyone is ready for the next disaster.

"Our goal is to make sure that we're ready for the next one, and we've seen a pretty positive response so far," said Paul Albertson, Hazard Mitigation Crew Lead For Community, Education, and Outreach. "We just want to make sure the people know we're here, we're going to be here, we're going to help them, and we want to make sure we that we don't have to do this again."

National Flood Insurance representatives were at the Home and Garden Show to help people sign up ahead of next hurricane season.

FEMA also had individual assistance for housing. They gave advice on constructing proper and sanitary housing conditions.
