OCALA, Fla. (AP) — An Ocala man has agreed to stop selling what he pitched as a "natural herpes medicine," a claim that was never approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The Tampa Bay Times reports (http://bit.ly/1Upns6J) the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida in Tampa recently entered a permanent injunction against James R. Hill to prevent the distribution of unapproved drugs masquerading as a cure for the herpes virus.

The Department of Justice officials said in a news release Hill agreed to the permanent injunction to settle a pending case against him.

The department filed a complaint alleging that Hill sold a product and claimed it could stop herpes outbreaks.

Hill made the misleading claims after receiving a warning letter from FDA and the Federal Trade Commission.
