Federal agencies host local financial crimes conference

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Every year, companies around the world lose 3.7 trillion dollars because of employees stealing money.

That's according to the U.S. attorney for the northern district of Florida. He says it's a serious problem, and today, his office co-hosted a seminar about financial crimes.

Local law enforcement agencies and financial institutions dove into a day of training at the Florida Sheriff's Association.

U.S Attorney Chris Canova said it was an opportunity for the public and private sectors to work together to prevent what's called occupational fraud.

He said it's really an issue that affects everyone.

The FBI and IRS teamed up with the U.S. attorney's office, northern district of Florida to organize this event.
