OCALA, Fla. (AP) -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating several deaths at two north Florida prisons.

The Ocala Star-Banner (http://bit.ly/11mI6wz) reports 80-year-old Jane C. Taylor died Monday and 48-year-old Michell Tierney passed away at Lowell Correctional Institution.

In addition, on Oct. 1, inmate Latanda Ellington died at the facility near Ocala. And 20-year-old Yalex Tirado died Thursday at Lancaster Correctional Institution in Trenton.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating Tierney's death. Spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger says the agency is also working closely with the Department of Corrections in the reviewing Taylor's death. She offered no further details.

The Department of Corrections says the medical examiner will determine the causes of death.

Prison spokesman McKinley Lewis says that under a new policy, the FDLE investigates all non-natural deaths.
