TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A new report shows that crime in Leon County has dropped.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement released its Semi-Annual Uniform Crime Report showing that crime in Leon County decreased by 7.7 percent.

These statistics come from crimes reported between January and June of this year compared with the same time frame last year.

The county showed improvement in the aggravated assault, burglary and robbery categories.

Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo also released a statement about the report.

"The decrease in the crime is the result of strong community partnerships, outstanding police work and the City's commitment to safe neighborhoods. We will continue to build on this progress through our community-policing efforts and collaboration with our law enforcement partners." - Chief DeLeo
