TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission or FCC was in Tallahassee Friday afternoon.
The chairman held several meetings, including with local TV and radio stations.
WTXL ABC 27's General Manager, Jason Wildenstein, was a part of one of those meetings.
Managers explained how they used different types of communications like mobile apps and Facebook live to keep giving people information, even when the power and cell service started to go out.
Chairman Ajit Pai said there's a value to broadcasting, especially during an emergency like Hurricane Michael.
"When there's a hurricane or other serious disaster that is imminent, people tend to tune in to their local broadcast TV station or local radio station. They are part of the network of communication providers who are important in times like this," said Pai. "That's part of the reason why we've encouraged our broadcast partners to keep doing what they're doing."
Pai praised some mobile carriers for waiving phone bills for some time, as customers continue to recover financially.
He said he hopes that type of relief continues. He said he's hoping all lines of communication will be back up and running as soon as possible.
