COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - A father and son have been arrested after getting into a heated argument allegedly involving a gun in the parking lot of Cook County Primary School.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested William Thomas Smith, Sr., 57, and William Thomas Smith, Jr., 26, for disorderly conduct.
They say a deputy helping with school security was alerted by a concerned citizen about an argument she witnessed in the school parking lot.
The woman said that she saw the two men arguing near a car in the west lot and saw the older man, Smith Sr., pull out a pistol and point it at the younger man, Smith Jr.
The deputy, along with responding deputies, met with the men. While speaking with them, they learned that the men were arguing over the custody of a grandchild.
CCSO says that both men gave conflicting stories one what happened, but the younger man denied having a gun pointed at him.
They say no students or teachers were near the incident when it occurred.
As a result of the initial investigation, both were arrested and taken to the Cook County Jail. Deputies say the investigation in ongoing and say additional charges could be filed.
