VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - The Georgia State Patrol responded to a fatal crash in Valdosta on I-75 Wednesday.

Troopers say 66-year-old Danny Robbins was towing a boat on the northbound side of the interstate near mile marker 11.

He is said to have fallen asleep at the wheel and hit a road sign on the emergency strip before losing control of the vehicle, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The vehicle flipped multiple times before stopping in the center lane of I-75.

Robbins was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries but his passenger, 93-year-old Bramble Robbins, died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle.

Troopers say the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
