TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Five Florida A&M University teams have been declared ineligible for the postseason due to their NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate being too low.
The FAMU teams that are ineligible are; Football, men's basketball, mens cross country, men's indoor track and field, and men's outdoor track and field.
According to the NCAA, teams must achieve a 930 APR to be eligible to compete after the regular season.
THE NCAA says it calculates the APR as follows:
- Each student-athlete receiving athletically related financial aid earns one point for staying in school and one point for being academically eligible.
- A team’s total points are divided by points possible and then multiplied by 1,000 to equal the team’s Academic Progress Rate.
- In addition to a team’s current-year APR, its rolling four-year APR is also used to determine accountability.
