TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University just received a grant to make the campus smoke and tobacco free.
FAMU is joining campuses across the country and going smoke and tobacco free.
The university received a $20,000 grant from the CVS Health Foundation, Truth Initiative, and the American Cancer Society. The three are working to deliver the first tobacco-free generation by targeting 126 college and university campuses.
FAMU students say they welcome a healthier campus.
"It's good that they're trying to advocate for for people to not smoke and it actually brings down the rate for younger people," said Cache Taylor, a FAMU freshman.
The tobacco free team will present their plan of action to the president, provost, and board of trustees soon. They say they plan to implement the initiative by spring.
