TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--A new chapter begins for thousands of students in Tallahassee. Many freshmen are moving into residence halls, and soon they'll start their first day of college.
At Florida A&M University, parents unloaded small refrigerators, microwaves, food, and everything else their child needs to get college life started.
Students like Johnathan Brister have big plans for the future.
Brister wants to major in architecture. He's happy to be away from home. His mom is proud of him, but finds it a little hard to let go.
"I'm feeling excited and apprehensive somewhat, said Cynthia Brister. "We came to orientation and I saw how he was able to handle himself, but just being a mom I'm going to miss him. This is a new beginning for him, and I'm behind him 100 percent."
Cynthia Brister is sending her son off with this advice: focus on your studies, have fun, and don't give up on your goals.
President Elmira Mangum, Ph.D., members of the senior leadership team are helping out this week with the move-ins.
