TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- Florida A&M University and StarMetro have signed a new deal regarding bus transportation for Rattler students. The new deal will bring two 25-passenger shuttle buses to FAMU's campus, replacing the Venom route that StarMetro previously used to travel through the university.
According to FAMU Police Chief Terence Calloway, the new deal will save FAMU hundreds of thousands of dollars in money they would owe StarMetro by 2017.The two new buses will operate on a seven day schedule to help students traveling from point to point on campus. The new deal does not, however, cancel the U-Pass program for FAMU students.
"There will be no interruption in the current U-Pass program", said StarMetro's Angela Baldwin, "The FAMU students will be able to ride without any interruptions, all routes, seven days per week. So there will be no interruption to service for students coming back in the Fall."
The new contract will allow active students to use the U-Pass program for the next two years.
