TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida A&M University seniors are gearing up for their summer graduation Friday at 6 p.m.
Their commencement speaker is Dr. Mareena Robinson Snowden.
She's a Stanton Nuclear Security Fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the first African-American woman to receive a Doctorate in nuclear science and engineering from MIT. She's also a FAMU alumna.
"It's an honor and I'm humbled by the opportunity to come and speak to the people who really helped shape who I am right now as a researcher and as a black woman," said Dr. Snowden. "To be able to come back and talk to the students who I know are in a critical point in their life, trying to figure out what the next move is going to be, I hope I have some wisdom to impart to them."
