TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida A&M University (FAMU) Board of Trustees (BOT) has approved a new contract for the university's new president.

Thursday, after a two-and-a-half hour meeting, the FAMU board voted to approve a $425,000-a-year contract for President-Select Dr. Elmira Mangum.

This was the third FAMU BOT meeting to discuss Dr. Mangum's contract. Dr. Mangum rejected some of the changes that had previously been proposed.

Dr. Mangum is currently vice president for budget and planning for Cornell University. She is expected to take over as FAMU's president on April 1, 2014.

The selection comes after former president Dr. James Ammons abruptly resigned in 2012 amid the fallout after the hazing death of Marching 100 drum major Robert Champion.

Thursday night, BOT BOT Chairman Solomon Badger released the following statement regarding the presidential contract.

“We are pleased that we have approved the terms of the presidential contract and in speaking with Dr. Elmira Mangum tonight, she has agreed to accept the terms in the updated contract. We look forward to our meeting with the Board of Governors on February 20 to confirm her appointment," said Badger.
