TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida A&M University released the results of a recent accreditation review by The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, also known as SACSCOC.
It is the recognized regional accrediting body for colleges and universities in the southern U.S.
Dr. Larry Robinson was thrilled to share the positive feedback FAMU received from the SACSCOC committee. The board had no improvement recommendations for the university.
During the visit, the SACSCOC committee held meetings and interviews with FAMU's faculty and students.
The committee was reviewing FAMU's institutional effectiveness, meaning they were making sure the university is meeting their mission statement, challenging students, and has good financial standing.
Dr. Robinson says he doesn't want the university to just be compliant, he wants to excel in all areas of education.
"They are very interested in hearing how we are doing that at the university and how do we, not only how do we assess that component of our existence, but also how do we feed that back in to a continuous improvement model," said Robinson.
Dr. Robinson says, the university is implementing a new program called 'Write on FAMU' aimed at improving writing skills across all majors.
The program, set to start with incoming freshman in 2018, is part of SACSCOC accreditation program requirement.
Dr. Robinson is optimistic the SACSCOC board will vote to approve FAMU's re-accreditation at their annual meeting in December.
