FAMU, J.C. Penney team up to for College Suit-Up event

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida A&M and J.C. Penney are teaming up to help college students suit up in professional clothing at a discount to jump-start their careers.

The retailer is offering both students and FAMU staff the opportunity to buy professional clothing at an extra 40 percent discount when they present a valid FAMU identification.

FAMU officials say this is the first time they've partnered up with J.C. Penny. This is also the first time J.C. Penny has partnered up with a historically black college. 

The College Suit-Up event will be November 5 from 6:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Tallahassee store. The national program has a number of participating colleges.

The purpose of the program is to give struggling students everywhere an opportunity to make a professional presentation, a spokesperson said.

During the event, J.C. Penney is offering a free salon hair consultation. Personal shopping will also be provided by faculty, staff and FAMU alumni.

Clothing offered includes, for women, Worthington, Liz Claiborne and Evan Picone and, for men, Stafford, Michael Strahan and Claiborne.
