FAMU DRS hires first female, African-American boys basketball coach

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - FAMU DRS has hired its first African-American female to coach their boys basketball team. 

Dione Smith-Desir has been tapped to coach FAMU DRS' boys basketball team.

Smith-Desir was a P.E. coach at DRS before taking the coach position. Officials say they got together for a search committee and in the end, she came out on top.

She is the first African-American female boys basketball coach at DRS. The athletic director at FAMU DRS' says they're having a formal presser about the announcement early next week.
