TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Florida A & M University's new president is one step closer to beginning her new duties on campus. The Board of Trustees held a meeting to make some final changes to Dr. Elmira Mangum's contract.

The original draft grants Dr. Mangum an annual base salary of $425,000 a year. It includes a three year contract with an additional three year extension. There is a $1,000 car allowance per month. Like all other FAMU presidents, she will also have use of the on campus president's residence.

After a meeting on February 7, the one $1,000 car allowance was taken out. Board members also talked about just how much to offer Dr. Mangum for her annual salary. After some disagreement and frustration, they voted 7-5 in favor of keeping the salary at $425,000 a year rather than changing it to $385,000.

Dr. Mangum was selected on January 9. She is set to start her job as FAMU's new president April 1. The contract will go to Dr. Mangum next to review with her attorney. After they all agree to the terms, the Florida Board of Governors must agree with their decision on February 20 at the University of South Florida
