TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee native and a Florida A&M University alum is once again packing up and heading to Washington D.C.

Tola Thompson is the long time director and assistant vice president of FAMU's Government Relations efforts.

According to university officials, Thompson will be taking up a post in Washington D.C. as the Chief of Staff to newly elected congressman, Al Lawson.

He says it has been a great pleasure to serve the community.

"It is and exciting opportunity. I'm very excited to be able to represent this community and work with such a fine public servant as Al Lawson," said Thompson. "He loves this county and this region of the state so I'm very excited to be able to assist him and help him meet the needs of this community."

Thompson says, he is not done helping his alma mater.

He'll be serving the district which the university falls in.
