PALM BEACH, Fla. (WTXL) - One Palm Beach family had a rude awakening when their refrigerator exploded.
The Ligondie family and their neighbors rushed to action when they heard the bang and the smoke alarm Saturday morning.
The homeowner's son, Mark Ligondie, says he smelled a strong odor that made his eyes sting.
"The fridge exploded and if you look at this angle right here it expanded and expanded so much it bent the metal of the stove," he said.
No one was injured.
The Whirlpool refrigerator was only four months old and, to date, there haven't been any recalls for that particular model.
In a statement, the popular fridge manufacturer says "Whirlpool is committed to providing safe products for consumers. We are working quickly to look into this incident."
