TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- It was all about health, wealth and fitness at The Second Annual Family Fitness Day. Vendors gave free information and screenings at the Walker-Ford community center.

The goal is to help people discover health risks before they lead to something more serious, like stroke or cardiovascular disease. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one cause of death for men and women in the united states.High blood pressure, or hypertension, directly relates to heart problems, but health experts say many don't know they have it until they get a blood pressure screening.

Doctor Asha Fields Brewer, says, "What's unfortunate is that with hypertension almost 50 percent of those who are non-Hispanic, minorities have some form of hypertension. Whether it be pre-hypertension or true-hypertension, in addition to that, we have a similar population who is obese." The American Heart Association states, nearly 70 percent of american adults are overweight or obese, putting them at a higher risk for heart disease.
