SARASOTA Co., FL (WWSB) -- Novice fishers and those looking for a family outing would be interested in this weekend event in North Port.

The City's Parks and Recreation, a division of the General Services Department, is hosting a "Family Fishing Clinic" on Saturday, April 1, at McKibben Park, 500 Trekell St.

From 9 a.m. to noon, families will learn basic fishing skills like knot tying, casting, baiting the hook and taking a fish off of the hook. There will then be an opportunity to put your new, or just improved, skills to the test and fish. No fishing license is needed and all equipment is provided at a fee of $5 per person.

The only requirements: Adults must bring a child and children must bring an adult, and participants are to register in advance. The clinic is limited to 50 participants and children must be 16 and under.
