TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Today in Tallahassee, an event helped parents get more involved with their kids. The first annual Parent and Family Engagement Conference kicked off at Hartsfield Elementary School. It's all about giving parents tools to know how to interact with the school, and stay informed in their children's lives.

Dr. Rhonda Blackwell-Flanagan, Hartsfield Elementary School Principal, says, "We thought if we could get parents resources and best practices and information, then they would be more informed. And more informed parents are stronger parents and they are able to build stronger families."

Social work and education experts also held a discussion panel for parents.

They learned how to build strong family ties and stay active in their kid's life. In addition, several local organizations and businesses set up tables, offering information for parents.
