A family is warning parents about kids’ light-up shoes after they had a frightening experience.
The couple’s two-year-old son had kicked off his shoes in their SUV Friday night and left them there.
The next day, their SUV burst into flames and when they put out the fire, there was half a shoe left.
The Houston, Texas, couple suspects a battery in the shoes caught fire. The shoes are powered by lithium batteries, which have been known to short out and burst into flames.
Fire officials say the shoes may have sparked the fire, but they haven’t determined an official cause yet.
The light-up shoes were bought at a Payless shoe store in Copperfield, Texas.
A Payless spokesperson released the following statement:
“We have contacted the family, and we will work with them and local authorities to better understand the circumstances of the fire and what may have caused it.”
