TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Residents of Guatemala are still on edge after two eruptions from Volcano Fuego this week.
This Thursday morning WTXL's Jada Williams spoke with one family in Antigua.
That family says that they are lucky enough to not be directly in the path of Volcano Fuego, and that is why they have been spending their days aiding other families who have suffered due to its eruptions.
With massive devastation and threats that the volcano could erupt a third time, the Tallahassee-based missionary group Medical Missions Team is unable to provide aid, but they are remaining in touch with families in the area.
The Von Cannon family says the volcano regularly rumbles, and it is common to see puffs of smoke come from it, but they have never experienced anything so devastating before.
The couple sent their children to stay with their grandparents, another 30 miles out from the volcano, while they inch closer to provide aid to families in need.
They told me they are working on starting up a drive to collect food, clothes, blankets and other necessities for the displaced people of Guatemala.
They said they are still on red alert and there is not an exact day that officials are telling them things will be safer.
As of now, the family is planning on picking their children up this Saturday.
