TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Crew members from the Tallahassee Fire Department visited Temple Israel Preschool on Thursday to build a special monument in honor of engineer Jeff Atkinson.
Atkinson died in the line of duty on December 15, 2017.
"... Jeff's a member of our family and will always be a member of our family," said TFD Deputy Fire Chief Richard Jones. "And, for that aspect, us being able to put this piece of equipment here and it carries on with his legacy and his name, and it helps us as a department to also never forget."
Aikinson's children attend school at Temple Israel.
TFD worked together to create a mini fire truck in the Temple Israel playground.
Tallahassee and the Temple Israel community hope the interactive monument will honor the joy and service he shared with our community.
