TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Amber Alerts are distributed through your TV and smartphones, and now, they will be on your News Feeds.
As of Tuesday, through a partnership with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, Facebook will geographically pinpoint the alerts so they appear in timelines of Facebook users who are near the search area. It's similar to the idea of receiving alerts to your smartphone based on your location.
Through the system, people will also have a direct link to the most up-to-date information about the case and will be able to share the information with friends.
Facebook says that the posts will include photographs and other details about the missing child and will be available on both mobile and desktop.
More than 700 children have been found since Amber Alerts began in 1996, and Facebook expects that number to rise with this new initiative.
