TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - With all of the rain that the Big Bend area has seen in recent weeks, tree removal businesses are working hard to clear downed trees.
WTXL's Jada Williams caught up with a local tree removal business.
A tree removal expert shared ways to tell if a tree should go before disaster strikes.
Most people don't consider how sturdy are their trees, but when storms roll through, many people get that answer.
So how do you prepare ahead to avoid that tree on it's last limb from falling onto your home or car?
"First off, if you have any dead trees, that's the number one thing to look for," said Michael Terzyak of AAA Tree Experts. "If it's been a long time since you had your trees looked at by a professional or an arborist, it's a good time right now to get that checked out because we're very busy."
Terzyak and his crew with Triple A Tree Experts are busy removing trees like this one that toppled over onto the roof while the resident was sleeping.
So step outside and look out for leaning trees in your yard.
"It depends on the species of the tree," Terzyak said. "Live oaks lean a lot but they naturally grow that way, but if you have a leaning pine tree with decay, you want to take care of it."
Of course, when you're living in a town like Tallahassee, where more than half of the city is covered with trees, cars are bound to hit them.
"Usually in that situation, the tree wins in a car accident or something, but it depends on the species," he said. "Say a pine tree gets hit, then it's susceptible to beetles."
While some trees may withstand more than others, no tree should go unnoticed.
"Just notice them," he said. "A lot of people just don't notice them and all it takes is looking up and you'll be safe."
