Ex-Medical Worker Sentenced to Prison for Wire Fraud

MACON, Ga. (AP) - Prosecutors say a former surgical practice office manager has been sentenced to five years in prison for wire fraud in central Georgia.

U.S. Attorney G.F. Peterman III says 53-year-old Maria Elizabeth Trenam was sentenced Friday for embezzling more than $1.18 million from the Surgical Associates of Warner Robins since 2011. Trenam had access to the banking and financial records of the business.

Trenam was arrested last year and pleaded guilty in July.

A federal judge ordered Trenam to pay the amount stolen in restitution.

Peterman says Trenam will have to forfeit anything she obtained from the fraud, including a house, an automobile and diamond ring.
