Live Oak, Fla. (WTXL)--The president of a local and historical college is getting the keys to the city.

Live Oak Mayor Garth Nobles Junior presented that proclamation to Edward Waters College President Dr. Nathaniel Glover. EWC was created by the AME church to educate freed slaves.

The school was founded nearly 150 years ago in live oak. On Saturday, the school planted an oak tree to commemorate the college's 150th anniversary.

Today, the school is located in Jacksonville after a fire destroyed the campus in 1901. However the original site still serves as historical landmark in the city of live oak.
