FLORIDA (WTXL) - A new study shows an invasive parasitic Roundworm, was found in five counties around the sunshine state.
University of Florida researchers say the parasite, known as Rat Lungworm, was found in rats and snails in Leon, Alachua, Saint Johns, Orange and Hillsborough counties.
It can cause Meningitis in humans and animals.
The study shows many physicians and veterinarians are not aware of the parasite or its presence in the U.S., and many infections may be misdiagnosed.
