TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - One former Seminole is giving back to a local elementary school.

Ernie Sims presented a check to Pineview Elementary School on Thursday, for the students to get excited and inspired to read.

The Tallahassee native played football for Florida State and was drafted into the NFL before moving back to the Capital City.

The Ernie Sims Big HITS Foundation has been collecting funds to donate to the school.

The purpose of the non profit is to empowers and strengthens children through various outreach programs throughout the big bend.

And now thanks to Sims and the foundation, those students will be able to receive a nice new book.

"Ernie feels like in order for any child to feel successful, they have to learn how to read. In the classroom is where his success started at Pineview Elementary School and he wanted to give back during this Holiday season," Alice Sims, Chair of Ernie Sims Big HITS Foundation.

The foundation also partnered with the Tallahassee Fire Department, the Tallahassee Parks and Recreation of Neighborhood Affairs, and of course Pineview Elementary School.
