(WTXL)--After springing forward one hour with Daylight Savings tonight, officials from the Georgia Emergency Management Agency's Ready Georgia campaign are asking residents to also do an emergency preparedness check.
They say to test your smoke alarms to make sure they are working properly. If your batteries are more than a year old, they should be replaced. They also suggest checking expiration dates on food, medications and water and also checking that battery-powered flashlights are still in working order. For more information, visit www.ready.ga.gov or download the Ready Georgia mobile application.
The Tallahassee Fire Department also says that if your smoke alarm unit is more than 8-10 years old, it should be replaced. Smoke detectors should be tested monthly and installed on every level of a home. TFD has developed a program to provide a smoke alarm for low-income residents. Contact the Tallahassee Fire Department at 891-6600 for more information.
