TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A bill that would allow universal weapon carrying privileges during emergencies is advancing in the Florida Legislature.
House Bill 209 is scheduled to come up for vote on Friday. The measure would allow all Floridians to carry concealed weapons during officially-declared emergencies, regardless of whether they have a permit for the weapon.
Supporters of the measure say it would allow Floridians to be better protected during mandated evacuations for events such as hurricanes. The Senate version of the bill is still working its way through Florida Senate.
