Electronic Contact System in Florida Reaches Milestone

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida's Emergency Contact System (ECI) has reached a milestone. More than 10 million people have now registered their contact information with ECI.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety says on average, more than a million new people have registered each year since the system was created in 2006.

The system gives authorities the ability to more quickly reach loved ones in times of emergency.

The idea for ECI came after a Manatee County woman lost her daughter in a car accident, and she died before authorities were able to find her contact information.
