Elder Care Services seeks help for seniors battling cold weather

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --Elder Care Services has no heaters or blankets in stock, a must for struggling seniors battling colder temperatures.

For most people, when the temperatures drop, it means it's time to turn up the thermostat. However, some elderly residents don't have that option.

Currently, Elder Care Services is averaging 6 to 8 requests a day by seniors needing blankets, heaters, and even assistance with paying their utility bills.

One of the challenges with the winter season is that cold spells often occur suddenly. Because of this, ECS relies on individual and community donations to help grant these requests.

The agency currently has no heaters or blankets in stock; and, with the current frigid temperatures, requests are expected to increase over the next two months. Donations will help ECS to continue to assist those in need.

Donations can be made by calling ECS at 850-921-5554, visiting their web site at www.ecsbigbend.org or by mailing donations to ECS, 2518 West Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, FL 32304.
